New Freebie Drop!
New freebie drop! This set of task cards happened because I received a bad review on my download: Poisonous Plants, Trail Safety! Handout + Task Cards + Presentation. It’s really a bummer to work so hard on the handouts and then get negative feedback because I didn’t include an aspect the buyer wanted.
While the original listing provided information about the plant, and the task cards were designed to review that information, the buyer said they had wanted task cards that allowed students to look at a plant image and identify poison sumac, poison oak, or poison ivy. Instead of modifying the existing listing, I created a separate set of task cards for that purpose.

Standards Alignment
Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS)
- 3-LS4-3: Construct an argument with evidence that in a particular habitat some organisms can survive well, some less well, and some not at all.
- 4-LS1-1: Construct an argument that plants and animals have internal and external structures that function to support survival and reproduction.
- 5-LS2-1: Develop a model to describe the movement of matter among plants, animals, decomposers, and the environment.
- MS-LS2-2: Construct an explanation that predicts patterns of interactions among organisms across ecosystems.
- MS-LS1-4: Use evidence to explain how plant structures (like toxins) help with survival and reproduction.
Common Core State Standards (CCSS)
- RI.4.1 / RI.5.1: Refer to details and examples when explaining and drawing inferences from informational text.
- RI.5.7: Integrate information from multiple sources to answer questions or solve problems.
- RST.6-8.1: Cite specific textual evidence to support analysis of science and technical texts.
- RST.6-8.4: Determine the meaning of scientific and domain-specific vocabulary in context.

Supports NGSS-aligned life science learning while reinforcing literacy and critical thinking skills through real-world plant identification and safety awareness.
